EI in the Workplace - It Matters!

Have you ever tried to have a well grounded, factual and rational conversation with a 3 year old who doesn’t want to share their toys in the sandbox?

HA! Yea, me neither...

I point out often how many adult conversations can trigger us in the exact same way as the sandbox saga…and the reason being that when we try to rationalize with someone low in emotional intelligence, we are quickly humbled as to the importance of these skills in day to day adulting.

EI are NOT soft skills that *may* improve your work performance but rather essential markers of a human able to function well in the face of change, challenge and uncertainty.

And what are we really, other than a bunch of kids trying to learn how to play nice in the sandbox?

Spoiler Alert: these skills are to be practiced with patience and persistence (unlike the sandbox talks which can end in tears and tantrums) and we are never really finished learning them.
